Shelly Beach Practice

LOGO · COPY · WEBSITE · SUPPORTING PHOTOGRAPHY

Shelly Beach Practice is an eating disorders treatment service in Ponsonby, Auckland which combines psychological and dietetic therapy. Increasing demand for its services and the addition of new specialist psychologists and a physiotherapist, prompted a rebranding, a new website and rework of the copy.

Shelly Beach Practice was first named by its founders, Jan Geary and Estella Leek. The name was chosen not for the Practice’s proximity to Shelly Beach Road, but because it referenced the beach, Te Onemaru O Hautau (“Hautau’s Sheltered Beach”), commonly called Shelly Beach, that used to be close by. It was once used by Māori to launch and land their waka (canoes). They'd camp on the foreshore while they smoked and dried the fish they’d caught. The land was ‘purchased’ by the Crown in 1840, and later, a portion was sold to John Campbell who built a boat shed and small house on it. It became a favourite picnic spot. Shelly Beach disappeared when the land was reclaimed for the Auckland Harbour Bridge. To the west though, Herne Bay’s other beaches remain. Most are sandy, strewn with shells and shaded by large pohutukawa trees. They’re tranquil, secluded spots where city dwellers can relax.
The story resonated with Michelle who took the shell motif already in use by the Practice, reversed it and transformed it into the logo using the vibrant turquoise blue of the sea as a backdrop. Throughout the website there are visual references to Shelly Beach - photos of shells washed ashore by the tide and other marine images largely sourced from Diana’s archive. Michelle combined these with existing shots of the team and some stock images to create the collages and icons.

Mint Nutrition

LOGO · BUSINESS CARDS · WEBSITE

Our clients, Estella Leek and Kate Syers, chose us to create the branding, website, copy, business cards and flyers for their new nutrition practice. They are both dietitians, love food and wanted the website to be colourful and fresh-looking just like the range of foods they encourage their clients to enjoy. Their website is clean and unfussy with distinctive mint leaf flourishes to tie in with the branding.

We used special processes on their business cards to make the mint leaves glint and also sandwiched a lime green layer between the white card. Talk to us about how to make your card stand out from the rest!

Geraldine Hughes - Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

LOGO · PHOTOGRAPHY · BUSINESS CARDS · BROCHURE

A butterfly emerging from a chrysalis, signifying growth, is a fitting image to represent Geraldine Hughes’ practice. The colours she warms to most are those of the sea and the blue, green and turquoise hues of the paua shell. These were incorporated into the logo and design of her brochure and cards.

'I love the logo. I am very happy with the brochures and business cards and have had great feedback.'
